Cook to Share
June 1 - July 31, 2020

For the past 16 years I have been privileged to work with Shared Beat in it's preventitive medical, vision, dental, health education and audiology activities to support and care for children and adults seeking to improve their education in Guatemala. The funds raised thru this activity directly support Shared Beat's vision to Assist underserved Guatemalan children to advance their education through improved health.

I'm competing to show that even those who are cooking-impaired can share their favorite food.

My favorite food is the peanut butter sandwich, no jelly, just peanut butter. I chose to present this item among the Marvelous Mains as I actually believe 60% of my DNA is peanut. I do recognize some are allergic to peanuts and I do not advise those with peanut allergy to participate in eating this food group. I do, nonetheless, encourage those who are not to think about the moments when you ate them in the past. Usually in a rush, but frequently as comfort food. My memory reaches back to watching Gilligan's Island, before it was a re-run, with a peanut butter sandwich in my hand (at 7 years old it was something easy to prepare) , while I was in the shop helping my father do upholstery, or while as an intern, I stole a quick moment to eat. More recently I have developed a palsey for preparing my own meals as anything I prepare outside a peanut butter sandwich is poorly done. In any case apply the KISS principle as follows:

Ingredients: 2 Pieces of Bread or your choice (whatever doesn't have mold...if it has mold discard and find a section without mold), Peanut Butter of your choice. You may wish to toast the bread, but that is an extra step and if you try to eat the sandwich while the bread is warm, you'll lose some on your shirt or jacket. So, take care if you do toast and make sure you have plenty of time to clean your clothing.

Technique: Spread a generous amount of peanut butter on one side using a dull knife and place the non-buttered side to match the other piece. It's very important to avoid placing the bread such that it doesn't match....shows bad technique and a generally lazy effort.
