Goal Progress

TXCPA Houston Foundation

TXCPA Houston, a chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, was organized in 1928, and, for nearly a century, we have been a trusted professional community for CPAs in the greater Houston area.

With nearly 8,000 members from a 13-county area*, we are the largest CPA chapter in Texas. TXCPA Houston has a reputation for action, integrity and competence as the result of the strong leadership of our volunteers.

CPAs Helping Schools provides funding to local districts for educational projects, emphasizing aid to economically disadvantaged schools and volunteers participate in career day presentations at local schools.

Since 2002, CPAs Helping Schools has reviewed over 600 grant applications, awarding funding in excess of $550,000 to over 200 schools in 35 local districts, private, parochial schools, and nonprofit educational organizations. In addition to providing education basics for at-risk youth, the financial support of CPAs Helping Schools continues to establish initiatives including math, technology, and literacy programs, library improvements, science materials, resources for after-school programs, fine art programs, and health awareness.

I have been a CPA for over 20 years.  I knew in junior high I wanted to be a businesswoman and really liked accounting.  I was exposed to accounting 101 when my mom took classes at the community college.  I loved the paper, the numbers, and even then, it made "cents."  I did not get a scholarship for college and paid the student loans, but I remember the stress of making ends meet to make tuition, then after graduating, paying the loans back.  For accounting students to be eligible for the CPA exam, they have to endure 5 years of college.  Many students struggle to get this last year done with the cost of education continuing to skyrocket.  They depend on scholarships to help them achieve their dream.  My goal is to fund 1 scholarship.  I hope you will donate and help me achieve that.

It is for these reasons that I am encouraging you to donate to the TXCPA Houston Accounting Scholarship Fund as I walk 3.1 miles.

Thank you for your contribution!  The committee and I truly appreciate your investment in our future.

PS: If you want to add “EVENT FINISHER” to your list of accomplishments, just ask us how you can join our team too!
