The Foundation story: Gabby (above) is a little girl
who started in Discover Fitness Foundation a year ago. She was
diagnosed with Autism at an early age. Her parents are a wonderful
example and have dedicated themselves to giving her every opportunity at
a normal life.
Like many kids with Autism, she was socially awkward, needed assistance
in school and lacked coordination which only added to the
insecurities. After a few months with Discover Fitness Foundation, the
caring coaches began to see drastic improvements. Her brain-to-body
communication had increased dramatically. Her accomplishments had given
her confidence and that began to spill over into the rest of her life.
Recently, her parents reported that she no longer needed assistance for
her schooling and had been placed in the "normal" classes. She has
also developed better social skills and is making more and more friends
every day. Her coaches have seen such a change in her physical
performance that she has been placed in the mainstream gymnastics
Discover Fitness Foundation is making a difference and this program works.
My personal story: I'm running this race for the
foundation and for myself. I moved to Houston and went from a
physically demanding career to a sedentary career. In a few short
months I had put on 20lbs and felt terrible. I wasn't sleeping well or
eating well and I didn't have the energy to play with my kids. My
confidence began to deteriorate. I knew something had to give.
I made a commitment to myself that I would set the alarm, get up, and
exercise. I've changed my diet, exercise 5-6 days a week and I've lost
the 20lbs. I feel great and I want to celebrate with this run.
For those of you who know me, you know that I love to help facilitate
giving to great causes. Please click on the donate button and support
my reason to race.
$20 will pay 1 class for a child and $300 will pay for 1 semester. Give generously. All donations are tax deductible.
I appreciate your help in reaching my goal!
