Welcome to Team Hannah's Hope Fund and Justin's Triumph over GAN. We raise funds to support the development of a treatment and cure for Giant Axonal Neuropathy (GAN), and to be the resource for doctors, scientists and families world-wide. GAN is an extremely rare and fatal genetic disease. There are only 63 known cases world-wide. The life expectancy for these children is only into their 20's. In 2015, the FDA approved an experimental trial -- so far, 2 patients have been injected. Help us raise money to continue our search for a cure for GAN.
I’m so excited, that on Thursday November 26, I will be participating in the 35th Annual SUGAR LAND TURKEY TROT event, for a specific cause. I have chosen Hannah's Hope Fund! I love how they are making a difference in our community and raising money to find a cure for GAN, a very rare genetic mutation called Giant Axonal Neuropathy. Unfortunately, GAN comes with a fatal diagnosis (which is why it’s mostly kids and a few young adults who have it).
The biggest challenge with research is that there is no Federal Funding for this disease because it isn’t an epidemic. There are no celebrities or telethons raising public awareness. In fact, there is only one charity, Hannah’s Hope Fund, which is raising money to fight this disease. It was started when the parents of a sixteen year old girl named Hannah found out she had GAN. Over the past 5 years they have raised significant money for research, but they need more.
