Discover Fitness Foundation (DFF) awards athletic scholarships to children fighting obesity, children with special needs, and children with financial need wishing to participate in recreational and competitive level gymnastics. The DFF mission will be accomplished by generating and providing the funding, and acting as a liaison organization, linking scholarship candidates with a gymnastics facility near their home.
The weekend of October 27,2012, I will be participating in the Monter Mash event consisting of a 5K. This will be my first time doing this event and I'm so excited to race for such a good cause. I have chosen the Discover Fitness Foundation as my Reason2Race.
I have the pleasure of working with the children that receive these scholarships on a weekly basis and love seeing all the smiles that gymnastics/fitness can bring to their faces. These programs provide an opportunity for these children to gain confidence in themselves, by accomplishing skills and building muscles that help them to become stronger.
I know my efforts can and will make a difference in the lives of many children, like Emily from a Houston area gym. Emily has Intractable Epilepsy-Autoimmune Epileptic Encephalopathy and mitochondrial disease. In 2005, after two induced comas and three brain surgeries, the family was told to make her final preparations. After one last attempt, Emily miraculously began to show improvement. Sadly, she was physically disabled and dependent on a wheelchair and feeding tube. Since then she has improved through different types of therapy and participating in gymnastics. She now competes for the SuperStars team and won second place at State last year. This couldn't have been possible without the DFF!!
Please contibute to our cause. Any amount would be great: $25, $50, $100 or other. THANK YOU for your contribution, and thank you for caring for the Discover Fitness Foundation children.
PS: If you want to add "Event Finisher" to your list of accomplishments, just ask us how you can join our team too!
