On February 8, 2020 I will be participating in the 5K run for Katy ISD Education Foundation Teacher Grants. For those that know me, I am not a runner (not unless someone is chasing me). However, the funds earned through Reason2Race go to the most worthwhile cause...our students!
Katy ISD has been a focal point in my life since I moved to the area in 1986. At that time I enrolled in the fairly new Mayde Creek Junior High as a 7th grader. The Mayde Creek area and community is where I called home for many years. After serving in the Army, I knew I wanted to return to Katy and give back as an educator. In 2001 I started my teaching career at Bear Creek Elementary. In 2013 I was named the principal of Mayde Creek Junior High and returned home after 25 years.
As the MCJH principal, I have had the honor of hiring and working alongside some of the most committed teachers in the world! Some of them I have worked with as a teacher and others I have actually taught as students. No matter the circumstances our teachers go above and beyond to provide our students with exceptional learning experiences that will carry them for the rest of their lives. Many of our students do not have the resources to extend their life experiences outside of the classroom. The committed teachers at MCJH want our students to experience anything and everything to prepare them to be contributing members of society. However that takes money. The Katy ISD Education Foundation was created to provide those funds for inspiring teachers. It is my hope that those reading this will also be inspired to donate money for this worthwhile cause. No donation is too small and it is greatly appreciated!
