The Society of American Military Engineers is the only nonprofit professional engineering education organization that actively promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry.
Our goal is to unite public and private sector entities and individuals in the A/E/C fields so that we can prepare for and overcome natural and man made disasters, acts of terrorism and improve security at home and abroad.
The Houston Post accomplishes this goal locally by supporting monthly luncheon meetings and other professional/social activities attended by members of local government, military, private industry, students and other interested parties. These meetings are announced via our e-mail distribution list and quarterly newsletter. We are supported by the national Society of American Military Engineers and publications such as The Military Engineer, which also promotes the interests and goals of our society and its members. Please peruse our website to discover the benefits of SAME Houston Post membership.
I got into running as a way of having my own time and burn off some nervous energy. That was almost 20 years ago and I haven’t stopped. I have raced every distance from 5k to 100 miles, enjoying the longer distances better. I am also a triathlete, and I am very active in my community, trying to race at least once a month. I am currently focusing on qualifying for the Ironman World Championship in KONA.
I have also mentored KSR (Katy Students Run), which is a group that focuses on transforming the lives of high school students in the Katy area by developing character and promoting healthy choices through running. We provide an environment which empowers students with the ability to experience success and the sense of accomplishment.
With COVID having put a hold on everything, a lot of people have found themselves struggling with motivation to go out and do something. I would love to invite you to join us and run or walk a 5k for a great cause. The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is a non-profit engineering organization that focuses on bringing together the public and private sectors in the A/E/C fields and promotes the advancement of both individual technical knowledge and the collective engineering capabilities of governments, the uniformed services and private industry. The SAME organization is reaching 100 years since it was effected a permanent organization, and the Houston/Galveston post has been around for 22 of those years. The SAME – Houston/Galveston Post commits to distribute approximately $20,000 in college scholarships annually, sending High School students to SAME Engineering & Construction summer camps to promote engineering technical skills and leadership, developing mentoring opportunities, supporting local and regional science fairs and math counts, as well as contributing donations to the Fisher House and the Houston Food Bank.
